STAN ZANIKANIA (STATE OF DISAPPEARANCE), 2025, sound installation was commissioned by NOWY ZŁOTY in Wrocław, a non-profit art space run by Magdalena Kreis and Yuriy Bailey. For the duration of the show, the gallery that is housed in a former newspaper kiosk became an object for listening. The sound installation was designed thinking strictly of the nature and history of that very space, inviting listeners to engage with stories that reveal the social role of the kiosk as a place that sustains local relationships. It offers a perspective not only on its specific architecture and function, but also draws attention to the kiosk as a sculptural element in itself, a peculiar memorial of bygone times. The recording “STAN ZANIKANIA” was created based on a script-score. It is composed of fragments from recorded stories collected during conversations with a former kiosk owner — where NOWY ZŁOTYis currently located — as well as with other kiosk users. The sounds used were either generated with AI tools or sourced from online audio databases, based on the main themes of these stories. The result is a kind of mosaic-like narrative, in a way "reconstructing" and creating a cloudscape from fragmented and diverse memories of the people.
